Making Charolette a room

We are remodeling our kitchen but when we found out that we were expecting over a year ago now, we put the kitchen on hold to redo the upstairs of our small old farm house. It is one of those upstairs that has a short roof. So over the course of a year we have stripped out all of the old plaster and lath, insulation (or lack there of) taken out the three junk windows, and put in a new window.

Here is a picture of the West wall with the three junk windows. They are all gone now. The one in the picture to the right is actually the middle window. That one is gone and closed up. We dicided that we needed a little more wall space. The small window on the left is replaced by a bigger window that could actually be used in case of a fire. The window not shown is the same way. Notice the wall on the left has no window. That is the South wall.
The tiny upstairs was divided into two smaller rooms. We decided to make it one big room. This was the last part of the wall to come down. I love my camera. It took a action shot that could be seen in a old flip book. Very cool.

David was very happy when it was down. It was amazing to see the big room.
This window is on the North wall. It is still there. Not a bad window.
Here is David putting in the new window in the South wall. Once we took off all the plaster and lath we discovered there has once been a window there. Someone walled it up! Could not believe it. Being a South window it let so much light in. After it was in we both looked at each other and said it looks like it belongs there.
Here is the new pocket door in that goes into the bathroom up stairs.

After much deliberation we dicided that we needed another bathroom in the house...expecially with a girl. We know we want another child so they will share this upstairs room and a bathroom will be handy in the morning. It will have a standup corner shower, sink, and toilet. There will also be enough room in there to have wall shelves on the East wall for towels or other things. The wall to the right is the wall that will make part of the stairway going down into the kitchen. We plan that this will be where the bunk bed goes. Gotta plan ahead!!

Here is the West wall again. Notice no middle window. All gone. Two bigger windows on either end. Notice a new floor. The old one inch wood plankes are still there but in perment hiding.

Here is the South wall with the new window. It looks great!!! David spend a tone of time putting insulation in. In the celing we had to all four roof vents for the tiny atic space we closed off. We wantd to make sure we had proper ventalation sinse the previous person who did work never vented the atic. So we put nailers on each and ever joice in the ceiling adding an extra 2 inches in depth. We put in actic vent spacers before adding insulation. Now there will be proper air flow. One of the roof vents go to the bathroom fan. So those hot showers will be ok.
Oh yea! Notice the baby bouncer up there. While David and I were nailing down the new subfloor Charolette spend hours bouncing in her seat.
