David and I heard the dogs barking like crazy in the pine tree row West of our house. We took Midget and Pip inside and went to investigate Gracy and Sarah. We figured since they didn't come running it probably was not a skunk. I pushed my way through the trees to find a groundhog about six feet up a tree frozen with fear from Sarah and Gracy barking. We particulary don't like groundhogs because they put holes in our fields. So david, the mighty hunter, went and got his gun. With one shot the groundhog hit the ground. Gracy, the alpha dog, quickly pounced on that thing like it was a turkey roast on the kitchen floor. Bones cracked and broke and if that thing was not dead from the gun shot it was sure dead by the mouth and teeth of Gracy.
David squats by Gracy and she carries her kill around the yard proudly. She knew she was doing a great job protecting the house. Sarah watches from a short distance away trying to get her share.
Sarah once got a hold of the tail but Gracy's jaw strength proved to be too much for Sarah.
We then brought out Midget and Pip, who were watching from the upstairs windows, to get in the action. As you can see Midget's hair is pointing straight up down the length of her back. Fearce!
Pip was trying to get good smells of the groundhog and Gracy kept biting into it and moving it away. She just wanted the thing to herself.
